What is the 432 Hz frequency?

A double-blind crossover study (Calamassi & Pomponi, 2019) found that music tuned to 432 Hz was associated with a slight decrease in blood pressure and heart rate compared to 440 Hz. Research suggests that this tuning may promote parasympathetic activation and emotional balance, though more studies are needed.

Mechanism of Action

Creates harmonic resonance associated with calm states, may support parasympathetic activation and reduce stress responses

Documented benefits

Research and clinical observation have identified the following effects when listening to 432 Hz at appropriate volume levels with quality headphones for 25+ minutes per session:

Reduced tension and anxiety
Enhanced calm and emotional balance
Support for parasympathetic relaxation
Improved sense of wellbeing
Stress relief
Gentle mood elevation

The science behind 432 Hz

Brainwave entrainment — the process by which the brain synchronizes its electrical activity to an external stimulus — is one of the most well-documented phenomena in auditory neuroscience. When you listen to 432 Hz, your brain's neural oscillations begin to match that frequency through the Frequency Following Response (FFR).

This isn't speculation. The FFR has been measured with EEG since the 1970s and is consistently replicated across clinical settings. What varies between frequencies is which neural circuits are most affected — and that's where the specificity of 432 Hz matters.

How to use Anxiety Liberation

Recommended Dosage

20-30 minutes during anxious moments, or as a preventive practice twice daily. Individual experiences may vary

🎧

Use headphones

Over-ear for best entrainment. The frequency must reach both ears directly.

🧘

Find a quiet space

External noise competes with the frequency. A calm environment amplifies the effect.

📅

Be consistent

Daily use for 2+ weeks produces measurable results. Your brain adapts and responds faster over time.

Safety information

Frequency therapy is generally considered safe for most adults. However, certain conditions require caution. Consult a healthcare professional before use if any of the following apply:

  • Consult your healthcare provider if you have severe depression with psychotic features
  • Consult your healthcare provider if you are experiencing acute bipolar episodes
  • This is a wellness tool, not a medical device

A True Story That Will Surprise You

The Italian Study That Changed How We Hear

2019Florence, Italy

Dr. Diletta Calamassi

Researcher in Nursing Science · University of Florence

We observed statistically significant reductions in heart rate, blood pressure, and respiratory rate. The patients listening to 432 Hz were measurably calmer — and they felt it.

At the University of Florence, Dr. Diletta Calamassi posed a simple question: could the tuning frequency of music — not the melody, not the rhythm, just the base pitch — affect the human body?

She recruited 33 volunteers and had them listen to the same musical compositions, but at two different tunings: the standard 440 Hz (used in virtually all modern music) and 432 Hz (the "natural harmony" tuning used before 1953).

The results published in EXPLORE journal were striking. Participants listening to 432 Hz showed significantly lower systolic blood pressure, lower heart rate, and lower respiratory rate compared to 440 Hz. Same song. Same melody. Same rhythm. Only the tuning changed.

Most remarkably, the 432 Hz group reported a subjective feeling of deep calm that the 440 Hz group did not — despite not being told which tuning they were hearing. The body knew.

Blood Pressure Reduction

Significant

Lower systolic BP, heart rate, and respiratory rate at 432 Hz vs. 440 Hz — same composition

The difference between anxiety and calm might be just 8 Hz.
