What is the 432 Hz frequency?

A small pilot (Calamassi & Pomponi, 2019) compared music tuned to 432 Hz with music tuned to 440 Hz. It was small, and it has not been repeated in a larger trial. People use 432 Hz as a calm listening tone.

Proposed mechanism

A soft, slightly lower tuning that many listeners find calm and easy to settle into

What early studies describe

Early studies on 432 Hz describe the effects below. They are small and still being repeated, results vary from person to person, and none of this is a medical claim.

A sense of letting go of tension
Enhanced calm and emotional balance
Slower, easier breathing
Improved sense of wellbeing
Unwinding
Gentle mood elevation

The science behind 432 Hz

Brainwave entrainment is the idea that the brain’s electrical activity can fall into step with a steady rhythm you hear. A related response, the Frequency Following Response (FFR), can be measured with EEG.

For 432 Hz there are frequency-specific studies, listed below. They are early and mostly small, so read them as a reason to try it, not as proof that it will work for you.

How to use Find Calm

Suggested session

20-30 minutes when you want to slow down, or as a calm practice twice daily. Individual experiences may vary

🎧

Use headphones

Over-ear or in-ear, at a low volume. They keep the tone clear without turning it up.

🧘

Find a quiet space

A calm room makes it easier to settle in and notice how you feel.

📅

Be consistent

A short session every day is easier to keep. Notice how you feel and adjust.

Safety information

Listening to frequencies is generally considered safe for most adults. However, certain conditions require caution. Consult a healthcare professional before use if any of the following apply:

  • ⚠If you are pregnant, use an implanted device, or a clinician is already caring for you, talk with them before listening
  • ⚠Stop if you feel dizzy or distressed
  • ⚠This is a wellness tool, not a medical device

This information is for educational purposes only. Freqium is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

The research behind this sound

A Small Italian Study on 432 Hz Tuning

2019Florence, Italy
DD

Dr. Diletta Calamassi

Researcher in Nursing Science · University of Florence

Study summaryA small double-blind pilot study comparing the same music tuned to 432 Hz and 440 Hz.

At the University of Florence, Diletta Calamassi and Gian Paolo Pomponi asked a simple question: does the tuning of music, with the melody and rhythm unchanged, make any difference to listeners?

In a small double-blind pilot, 33 volunteers listened to the same pieces tuned to the standard 440 Hz and to 432 Hz, without knowing which was which.

The authors reported a slightly lower average heart rate with the 432 Hz version, and listeners said they felt a little more focused and satisfied. Other differences were small.

It is one small study, and the authors call for larger ones. We share it because it is the clearest research on 432 Hz tuning, not because it proves an effect.
